chapter of the book is devoted to Roy Head
and the origins of “Treat Her Right,” and
includes several of Gene’s recollections on
both.

At this time, Treat Her Right was really
taking off nationally. It was near the top
of the R&B charts, and starting to climb on
the pop charts.

PROMO SHEET - (pdf format)
This is the promo sheet
that was handed out at that famous R&B Disk
Jockey Convention in 1965, when they all
thought Roy was black, and didn’t like him
when he came on stage...until he started
singin’ and dancin’...and then, they changed
their minds.
The promo sheet itself
was put together by Brock Entertainment
Agency in Houston; just weeks after “Treat
Her Right” hit the airwaves. The band
members pictured here are the same personnel
that played on the original hit version of “THR.”
